Lena Talks Beauty Empties - August and September

Time has got away on me – my formerly monthly empties posts have now seemed to become every second month! This post is a bit of a long one, so I better get cracking. I finished 15 products, 12 of them full size (including 2 single-use masks), and 3 mini/sample sized. The products range across haircare, skincare, body products, makeup, and nails.

Batiste Dry Shampoo – Eden (honeysuckle & sugarmelon)

I don’t remember the last time I wrote an empties post and it didn’t include a can of Batiste dry shampoo. This fragrance was amazing, my favourite of them all.

Olaplex Hair Perfector

I’ve been using Olaplex for about the last year, and it was great at rehabbing my damaged hair. Since I’ve got my hair to a good condition and started just being Ombre blonde rather than full highlights, I haven’t used it as much. Doesn’t seem really neccessary at the moment, especially not at $50 for a bottle I get maybe 5 uses from.

Repurchase? Maybe sometime in the future

Weleda Pomegranate Creamy Body Wash*

I loved the way this smelled, and it made my skin feel amazing – but there’s a but. It didn’t seem to do a great job if I had been really getting sweaty. I don’t know what is was, maybe it was just too natural to scrub all the bacteria away??

Repurchase? Probably not.

Beauty Formulas Relaxing & Healing Foot mask*

I used this as part of a pampering at home pedicure session and I felt very relaxed, with nicely moisturised feet.. Hard to have much more to say!

Repurchase? Probably not, I wasn’t excited enough.

Palmolive Oil Infusions Body Moisturiser – Jasmine with Avocado oil, Citrus with Jojoba oil

I’ve ended up with a million sachets of this from goodie bags at various events, so this has popped up quite a few times in empties posts. In summary, I like this moisturiser. The Jasmine fragrance is my favourite by far.

Repurchase? Maybe once all my samples run out (probably in a few years!!)

Kimmidoll Hand & Nail Cream – Vanilla Orchid

This was “acquired” from my mum, and was my handbag hand cream for months. I liked the consistency and fragrance a lot. Not too overpowering.

Repurchase? If I knew where it was from.

Desert Essence Coconut Hand & Body Lotion

This was used by all my coworkers as our office hand cream and everyone liked it. The smell was always commented on when people came in to the office! We were all quite sad when it came to an end.

Repurchase? It’s currently out of stock on iHerb, but I would.

Zoya Fast Drops*

A manicure is never a quick process for me. I like to settle in with a TV show and do my nails perfectly, with lots of attention to detail. What I do like to hurry along, is the drying process. We all know what it’s like when your nails are wet and you need to do something – it’s a struggle. I like to use quick dry top coats or drying drops (or both!) to hurry things along. I have made good use of these Zoya drying drops, and they’ve lasted quite a long time. I have no idea how they work, maybe it’s magic, but nonetheless, I love them.

Repurchase? Once I force myself to finish some more

Cuticle oil made by Laura Laura Blog

My dear friend Laura mixed up this wee cuticle oil for me which I have been faithfully applying. There’s not much point reviewing it as you  can’t actually buy it, but I’m including it so it can be part of my finished products tally for the year.

The 15 products I’ve finished over this period, adds to a total of 59 products finished during 2017! That’s a drop in the ocean compared to how many I’ve acquired, but let’s not talk about that.

Eau Thermale Avène Micellar Lotion*

Over the last few years I’ve tried quite a lot of micellar waters, and this is my favourite by far. It was the best at makeup removal, and left my skin feeling the best compared to other brands. I kept it on my bedside table with cotton pads for lazy nights.

Repurchase? Probably, once I’ve used some other makeup removers up

Beauty Formulas Collagen Essence Face Mask*

I used this as part of an aforementioned pampering night, and it made my skin feel really nice. I find it hard to say much more about sheet masks, they’re all much of a muchness to me – in a good way.

Repurchase? If I didn’t own 100000 already.

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Light Therapy Acne Mask Activator*

I didn’t notice a great deal of difference in my skin from one month of using this mask, but I’ve got another activator that I’ve moved on to now. I’ll be back to share my thoughts on this in full at a later date.

Repurchase? Unsure as of yet

Makeup & nails

Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation

For the last year, this has been my ‘everyday’ foundation. I have easily a dozen foundations, and this wasn’t the best, but it was pretty good. I bought it because it was cheap at half the price of my favourite , and it was new which intrigued me. I had it on my ‘to blog about’ list for a year…so here you go! The formula was excellent for my dry skin, and it was quite long lasting. I wore the shade 15 Ivory and it worked well for me, matching my skin tone consistently – lucky that I don’t really tan. One part I don’t recommend is the ‘dream blender” that I got for free with it. It’s like a little beauty sponge on a stick, and I just didn’t see the point about it. I tried it a few times but literally anything else including your fingers will apply foundation better.

Repurchase? I’m going to work through my stash a bit first.

Lucas’ Papaw Ointment

A few years ago this was everyone’s go-to lip balm but in recent years chemical-phobia and natural beauty has really had an upswing, and I find myself having to defend it from haters! For more on that, read my post about petroleum jelly here.   In case you try to argue this point with me, know that I’m so dedicated to this that I have read articles in scientific journals about it. And I’ll trust those over some natural beauty “expert” on instagram, or marketing materials from “natural” beauty brands any day.

Repurchase? I already have.

Now there we have it – all my thoughts about the products I finished over the last couple of months. Have you tried any of them? What are your thoughts? I’d love to read your comments!
