Lena Talks life update

Hello friends! It’s been a while, hasn’t it – 5 months to be precise. Whilst I’ve still been posting regularly on Instagram, I haven’t written any actual posts until last week’s post about Croatia. In my almost 5 years of blogging I’ve never gone that long without writing a post, but life has been hectic. Time for an update on what I’ve been doing!

At the end of August I changed jobs, within the same company. It’s been a challenge, having to learn a lot of new things, and I was coming home just knackered. I’m very happy in the role, despite the difficulty at times, which is good. I’ve changed jobs a couple of times in the last few years and it always takes a lot out of me. Outside work, I’ve had a lot of fun going on though. I’ve still been able to attend quite a lot of events with brands and launches which are always exciting. In recent months I’ve been to quite a few concerts – Sam Smith, Six60, and best of all Florence and the Machine.

Lesson from Oprah – Run your own race

Tuesday, March 20th 2018 Life

Recently I was listening to a podcast called Making Oprah, where Oprah Winfrey and the people around her tell the behind the scenes story of her talk show. I grew up watching Oprah – my mum used to record it every day, first on VHS, then on MySky. When I was only 1, I used to imitate her by saying “Oprah, uh-huh”, the way she does when interviewing guests. As I got older, Mum and I would sit down in the evenings with a pot of tea and catch up on Oprah. I’ve amassed many of Oprah’s mantras over time, such as “live your best life” and a quote from Maya Angelou “when people show you who they are – believe them”. Making Oprah exposed me to a new saying of hers – run your own race.

“I learned the greatest lesson of any competitor, or anybody who’s in business, and passed that on to the rest of my staff. And that is that you can only run your own race.

Lena Talks Gardening: meet my Little Garden

My babies progressed to planters

Over the last year I’ve developed quite an interest in gardening, which is one of the reasons why I haven’t been as active with blogging as I had in previous years. Being out in the garden has taken up rather a lot of my time, so here’s a look at what I’ve been up to! Last year New World supermarkets had a promotion where they gave seedling kits out when you spent a certain amount. I got quite excited by this, and collected a rather large number of them. Between my flat of 4 people, and being given them from other people who heard of my interest, I had a huge amount. They came with some seeds, a little pot to start the seeds in, and a disc of dried soil that you mixed with water. Then before long (several months) I had a garden full of plants!
