Essence Cosmetics – now in New Zealand!

Friday, February 27th 2015 Makeup

I’m very excited that Essence Cosmetics are now available in New Zealand! Essence is a European brand that I have bought from in Australia, but now they’ve made it to our shores. Essence has launched in New Zealand, and as part of that I was sent a number of their products to use gleeful smile. I tell you, being a beauty blogger is like it’s permanently Christmas. In this post I’ll be reviewing some of their face, lip, and eye products – spoiler alert, I like them a lot.

Neutral Glittery nails

Wednesday, February 25th 2015 Nails

Lately I’ve been wearing a lot of bright nail polishes, so this week I felt like going with some more neutral tones. Of course, I couldn’t let things be too dull, so I used two different polishes to end up with a neutral glittery manicure. They are OPI – Don’t Pretzel My Buttons and China Glaze – Fast Track. Keep reading to see how they look together!

Fearless Style – makeup edition

Monday, February 23rd 2015 Makeup

A few weeks ago my friend Meagan who blogs over at This Is Meagan Kerr, put a call out for plus size women to be photographed for her body positive fashion project. It’s called Fat Girls Shouldn’t Wear Stripes – Fearless Style, and she wanted women to pick out their favourite outfit, and to step in front of her camera being our fat fabulous selves. In a rush of confidence, I volunteered to do it, and before I knew it I was pretending to be a supermodel for Meagan. I was really nervous – publicly putting my name and face and body out there as a fat woman was a big deal. Nevertheless, one Sunday morning I got up and got ready for it – despite the fact that I was at the peak of my Glandular Fever, not that I knew it yet. In this post, I’m going to show what makeup I chose to represent my fearless style.

My hair care routine

Thursday, February 19th 2015 Hair care

I can’t believe I have been writing this blog for 10 months, and I haven’t properly written about my hair care routine – well that is changing today, my friends! I’m going to tell you all about what I do to my hair to keep it looking so great. Does that sound vain? Maybe, but it’s a reality  – I get a lot of compliments and questions about my hair. I’m going to write about the basic products I use, such as the shampoo and conditioner, as well as some treatments and things that I make use of a bit less frequently that nonetheless contribute.

Benefit Roller Lash mascara

Monday, February 16th 2015 Makeup

Last week I was invited to the launch of Benefit’s new Roller Lash mascara. It was held at Dry & Tea at City Works Depot, which incidentally was somewhere I had been wanting to go for a while! I headed along with a few blogger friends, and we were all eager to check out what had been a mystery for us until that point. The Benebabes were there, and we got the chance to try out this fab new mascara, as well as lots of the rest of the Benefit Cosmetics range.

Makeup and my body image

Friday, February 13th 2015 Uncategorised

Today I’m going to be talking about something slightly different than usual. In advance, I want to warn that I’ll be talking about body image, and some of it is fairly negative. I absolutely don’t want to upset anyone with what I’ve written – it’s musings about *myself* and I don’t want my opinions about myself to be put on to anyone else. If you’re interested in how I feel about my body image, and how that relates to my interest in makeup and beauty products, then click read more.

Simple Micellar Cleansing Water

Friday, February 6th 2015 Skincare

Micellar waters have become hugely popular over the last couple of years, and until recently they haven’t been available in New Zealand. Last week Simple launched their Kind to Skin Micellar Cleansing Water, and they kindly sent me a bottle to review.

Cutex Metallic Flash and Flamingo Dash

Wednesday, February 4th 2015 Nails

I received these two Cutex Quick ‘N Go nail polishes through NZ Secret Santa on Twitter – clearly my person paid attention to my profile, because it was a perfect gift for me! They are 610 Metallic Flash and 220 Flamingo Dash, and I love both pink and purple, so I was delighted to be gifted these. Cutex says that these dry in 45 seconds, and only need one coat, so I put that to the test.

Monday, February 2nd 2015 Uncategorised

It’s been a while since I’ve done an empties post! I have been trying a few different things skincare-wise lately, so I haven’t been getting through things as quickly as I normally might. Today I’ll be going through the beauty products I’ve finished during November, December and January, which are products from Batiste, Trilogy, Stridex, Comvita and Vaseline – let’s get started!
