Meal kit delivery services have taken the country by storm, and I’ve tried a number of them now. I’ve posted quite a bit about the amazing meals I’ve prepared, but wanted to write more extensive reviews of some of the different meal kits available in New Zealand. In this post I’ve written about my experience of using My Food Bag, My Food Bag’s Fresh Start, Food Box, and World On Our Plate (WOOP). I’ve also done the maths to compare the cost per meal for the different services.
We’re a few weeks into the new year, so hopefully it’s not too late for me to share my favourite sources of entertainment from 2017. I’ve selected a favourite from the following categories: books, TV shows, movies, podcasts, music, and comedy. It was tricky whittling my list down when there’s so much I’ve enjoyed, but it had to be done.

It’s time for a big change around here! Lena Talks Beauty was created in April 2014, when I was brimming with thoughts about newfound passion for beauty. Almost four years have passed since then, and my interests have changed a bit over that time. I still love beauty products, but I’ve got a lot to say on other topics too. So, I’ve decided to change tack with my blog’s theme, and I’m expanding from being purely beauty-focused, to becoming a lifestyle blog. I have so many other interests that I’d love to share with you all, ranging from food, entertainment, fashion, and so much more.
With this comes a change in the name, I’m dropping the ‘beauty’ and becoming just Lena Talks. I’ve also changed up the look on here, with a new theme and logo – New year, new me! It’s been a big renovation project behind the scenes at Lena Talks headquarters (my bedroom). There are a few creases to iron out, so please let me know if you come across anything that’s not quite right.
I’m excited about this change, and I hope you are too. I still intend to write beauty posts when things come to mind, so that won’t be totally disappearing. There’s some good posts lined up on topics from food to entertainment to dating, so stay tuned. I’m keeping my existing social media accounts, just changing the names so you’ll still be following me.
Don’t you just love it when you buy a dress that makes you feel like a million bucks? I do, and last year I bought 3 of them. Meet the Lady Voluptuous Lyra dresses. Lady V London is a brand of vintage styled clothing, with Lady Voluptuous being the name of their plus size range. This range is produced in collaboration with Georgina from Fuller Figure, Fuller Bust blog. The Lyra has the look of a wrap dress with the cross over at the top, but does not actually tie to close. There is a waist tie that you can tie at the front to simulate that wrap look, and it has a full skirt that goes to my knees. Some styles are made with long sleeves, and other have shorter sleeves. The fabric flows nicely across my curves which is very flattering.

If your Facebook feed is anything like mine, ads for Wish shopping app have been popping up frequently. Everything on there is really cheap, and there are a lot of interesting items on offer. I can’t resist either of those things and I’ve been shopping up a storm on Wish. So, today I’m sharing my enthusiasm and my great buys with you all. A lot of the items I’ve bought are home decor related, as I’ve been trying to make my room an adorable girly sanctuary, but there’s a fair number of beauty buys too.

Meet Mark – no, I’m not talking about a boy – it’s a new cosmetics range. Brought to you by Avon, Mark is a capsule collection for beauty lovers who enjoy bold colors and creative looks. It’s a bit of a different path for Avon, which has been around for over 100 years and has usually resided at a more classic end of the market. I was sent a few different items from the range, and it was the nail polishes that drew my eye first. The Mark Gel Shine Nail Enamel promises gel-like results without a UV lamp, or even a top coat. Time to put it to the test…

Time has got away on me – my formerly monthly empties posts have now seemed to become every second month! This post is a bit of a long one, so I better get cracking. I finished 15 products, 12 of them full size (including 2 single-use masks), and 3 mini/sample sized. The products range across haircare, skincare, body products, makeup, and nails.

The eyes are the window to the soul, so the eyelashes must be the curtains. Over the years I’ve experimented with a few different things for my lashes – tints, extensions, falsies, and occasional curler use. One thing I’d heard about and never tried until recently was the lash lift! This is where Rachel Mackwood comes in – she’s a makeup artist and beautician who offered to lift up my lashes for me. I visited her salon for a complimentary lash lift and tint, and have been absolutely blown away by the results.

NYX Professional Makeup is a brand I have been loving for years and writing about since the early days of this blog. A NYX primer featured in my very first blog post back in April 2014! That’s why I was super stoked to be invited to an event held by NYX recently where we got glammed up, learned a bit more about the new releases, and left with some goodies to try. I’ve given them a road test, and today I have a review to share about these new products from NYX Professional Makeup.

It has been FOREVER since I’ve written what my daily skincare routine is. This year I have tried really hard to stick to a consistent routine, of using 1 product until I finish it up. When I first started being sent products to try for my blog, I’d be using new things every week. My skin did not enjoy chopping and changing so much, especially considering so many of the products weren’t right for my skin type. Since sticking to a consistent routine, my skin has really looked so much better. People often say that you need to stick to one brand of skincare which I don’t believe in. I use products from La Roche-Posay, Neutrogena, Garnier, Clinique, Dermalogica, Avene, Goodness, Seed + Soul, and InstaNatural. Now, onto my skincare routine:
